About the role

Target is looking for a Backend Engineer to build scalable services and embed Generative AI capabilities into core retail platforms. Based in Bangalore, you will design, develop, and maintain Java/Kotlin micro‑services, ensure observability, and follow security best practices while collaborating with a cross‑functional tech team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and ship production‑ready backend applications using Java, Kotlin and frameworks such as Spring Boot or Micronaut.
  • Integrate Large Language Models and GenAI features, and implement mechanisms to reduce hallucinations and improve AI reliability.
  • Design event‑driven, micro‑service architectures leveraging Kafka or RabbitMQ and ensure high availability.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins or GitLab and containerize workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Set up monitoring, logging and alerting with Grafana, Prometheus and the ELK stack to maintain service health.
  • Collaborate with product, data and security teams, participate in knowledge sharing, and follow agile processes.
