The formula

How to calculate hike percentage.

One formula for each way round. Use the same kind of figure on both sides: yearly CTC with yearly CTC, monthly pay with monthly pay.

  • Hike percentage

    Hike % = (New salary − Current salary) ÷ Current salary × 100

    From ₹6,00,000 to ₹7,80,000: (7,80,000 − 6,00,000) ÷ 6,00,000 × 100 = 30%.

  • New salary after a hike

    New salary = Current salary × (1 + Hike % ÷ 100)

    A 20% hike on ₹6,00,000: 6,00,000 × 1.2 = ₹7,20,000, which is ₹1,20,000 more.

FAQ

Questions about salary hikes.

How the sums work, CTC or in-hand, and what happens to the figures you enter.

How do I calculate my hike percentage?

Subtract your current salary from the new one, divide by the current salary and multiply by 100. From ₹6,00,000 to ₹7,20,000: (7,20,000 − 6,00,000) ÷ 6,00,000 × 100 = 20%.

How do I work out my new salary after a hike?

Multiply your current salary by 1 plus the hike as a decimal: by 1.1 for a 10% hike. On ₹8,00,000 that's 8,00,000 × 1.1 = ₹8,80,000.

How much is a 30% hike on 6 LPA?

7.8 LPA (lakh per annum). A 30% hike adds ₹1,80,000 to ₹6,00,000, so the new CTC is ₹7,80,000 a year. The table of common hikes on this page has more.

Is a hike calculated on CTC or in-hand salary?

Offer and appraisal letters usually state it on CTC, your yearly cost to company. In-hand pay rarely rises by exactly the same percentage, because income tax and deductions such as PF change too. The calculator works on any figure, so you can check either.

Can I use my monthly salary?

Yes. A hike is the same percentage of your monthly pay as of your yearly CTC, so enter whichever you know and the new salary comes out the same way. Just don't mix the two: compare monthly with monthly and yearly with yearly.

Is my hike a good one?

Judge the new salary, not just the percentage: a big hike on a low salary can still pay less than the role pays elsewhere. Compare it with what companies pay for the same role. Our company pages show what their open roles pay, where it's known, and Levels.fyi, AmbitionBox and Glassdoor collect salaries from employees.

Is my salary saved anywhere?

No. The sums are done in your browser: we don't store what you enter, and our analytics never record the amounts.
