Staff Frontend Engineer - Grafana DataViz

About the role

Grafana Labs is looking for a senior frontend engineer to own the DataViz squad. You will shape the next generation of open‑source visualisation components using TypeScript, React and modern charting libraries, while collaborating with a globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Drive multi‑quarter technical projects from concept through release, gathering user feedback and measuring impact.
• Mentor peers, lead design discussions and raise code quality through reviews and pair programming.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, troubleshoot incidents and improve reliability of the visualisation services.
• Provide expert support for customer escalations and identify friction points for improvement.
• Represent the squad in cross‑team forums, craft design proposals, demo new features and influence roadmap decisions.

Eligibility

• Proven technical leadership with experience guiding engineers in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Hands‑on experience operating production software, including on‑call duties and incident response.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, able to break complex challenges into rapid MVP cycles.
• Practical familiarity with AI tooling and a track record of using it to boost productivity.
• Passion for open‑source, community engagement and contributing to Grafana’s ecosystem.

Skills

• TypeScript and React for building large‑scale web applications.
• Data‑visualisation libraries such as uPlot and eCharts.
• Experience with AI assistants (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google models) in development workflows.
• Understanding of observability concepts and tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki or Tempo.
• Effective communication and mentorship in a fully remote setting.
