Design Engineer

About the role

Vercel is looking for a Design Engineer to own the product design and front‑end implementation of its AI Gateway platform. You will shape the experience across the dashboard, website, CLI and API, turning complex AI model workflows into intuitive, accessible interfaces for developers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of end‑to‑end user journeys for discovering, testing and managing AI models.
• Build production‑grade front‑end features using React and TypeScript across web, dashboard and CLI contexts.
• Translate technical concepts such as routing, budgeting, credentials and governance into clear visual patterns.
• Collaborate directly with customers, product managers and engineers to gather feedback, define success metrics and iterate on shipped features.
• Maintain post‑launch quality by addressing accessibility, performance, resilience and instrumentation concerns.
• Leverage coding assistants to prototype ideas quickly while ensuring robust testing and debugging.

Eligibility

• Demonstrated experience delivering production‑ready web applications with React and TypeScript.
• Strong visual and interaction design skills, especially for data‑rich or developer‑focused products.
• Ability to work across graphical UI, command‑line tools and API responses, keeping accessibility and performance in mind.
• Proven track record of using customer research and product data to inform design decisions.
• Comfort with AI model ecosystems, developer tooling, or infrastructure‑type products is a plus.
• Portfolio or case studies that showcase shipped products and the reasoning behind design choices.
