Software Development Engineer Intern – Backend

About the role

Smytten, through its PulseAI Research platform, is looking for a backend‑focused Software Development Engineer Intern in Bangalore. The 4‑6 month, in‑office internship offers hands‑on experience building AI‑powered services, APIs, micro‑services, and cloud‑native infrastructure while working alongside seasoned engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure backend systems for AI‑driven applications.
• Build and maintain high‑performance APIs and micro‑services, including REST and gRPC interfaces.
• Create orchestration layers that connect large language models, analytical models, and data sources.
• Develop asynchronous processing pipelines using queues, retries, and scheduling mechanisms.
• Construct RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector retrieval, and AI guardrails for generative AI workloads.
• Support multi‑tenant architecture with data isolation, access controls, and observability features.

Eligibility

• Pre‑final or final‑year student pursuing B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech, MCA or an equivalent degree.
• Available for a full‑time 4‑6 month internship (minimum 4 months for PPO consideration).
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems and databases.
• Practical knowledge of backend development using Python, Java, Go, Node.js or similar.

Skills

• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Python, Java, Go or Node.js.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, OS concepts and relational databases.
• Experience with API design, micro‑services, and asynchronous processing.
• Familiarity with cloud‑native development, containers and orchestration.
