About the role
Morningstar is looking for a Data Scientist to join its AI & ML (Data Collection) team in Mumbai. You will design and deliver AI‑driven extraction solutions for financial documents, handling everything from problem definition to production monitoring while collaborating with product, engineering and domain experts.
Responsibilities
- Own end‑to‑end data‑science projects, from discovery through deployment and continuous improvement.
- Translate business needs into measurable data‑science problems and define training, validation and testing strategies.
- Develop NLP, LLM and retrieval‑augmented generation models for document understanding.
- Build extraction pipelines using parsing, feature engineering, embeddings, RAG and prompt engineering.
- Create evaluation datasets and metrics (precision, recall, F1, coverage) and perform error analysis.
- Partner with ML engineers to productionize models, monitor drift and drive iterative enhancements.

Eligibility
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience in applied data science, machine learning or NLP.
- Proven track record of taking models from research to production.
Skills
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn.
- Experience with deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Hands‑on work with Hugging Face, LangChain or similar LLM/NLP libraries.
- Knowledge of transformers, embeddings, RAG, prompt engineering and fine‑tuning.
- Strong statistical reasoning, experimental design and model evaluation.
- Effective communication and collaboration across cross‑functional teams.
