Staff Frontend Engineer

About the role

Grafana Labs is looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer to lead multi‑quarter technical initiatives for its DataViz squad. Working remotely from Canada or the US, you will shape core visualization components using React, TypeScript, uPlot and eCharts while collaborating across a global, open‑source‑focused team.

Responsibilities

• Drive large‑scale frontend projects from concept through rollout, gathering user feedback and measuring impact.
• Mentor engineers, raise code quality through reviews, design discussions and pair programming.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, troubleshoot production incidents, and support customers during escalations.
• Represent the DataViz squad in cross‑team forums, author design proposals and demo new features.
• Leverage AI‑assisted development tools and a company‑funded budget to accelerate prototyping and testing.

Eligibility

• Proven technical leadership with experience guiding remote engineering teams.
• Hands‑on on‑call experience and a track record of maintaining reliable production software.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, bias toward action, and clear communication in an asynchronous environment.
• Passion for AI technologies and practical experience applying them to real‑world code.
• Active involvement in open‑source communities, especially around Grafana or observability tools.

Skills

• React and TypeScript expertise.
• Data‑visualisation libraries such as uPlot and eCharts.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants and modern development workflows.
• Understanding of observability ecosystems (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo).
• Experience with CI/CD, testing strategies and visual regression tooling.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
