About the role

GitLab is looking for an Intermediate Backend Engineer to join its Authorization team in Bangalore. The role focuses on building and maintaining permission checks for GitLab’s platform, primarily using Ruby on Rails while contributing to a new Rust‑based policy engine.

Responsibilities

Implement and refine authorization logic in the Ruby on Rails monolith.
Deliver feature‑flagged workstreams and ensure parity between old and new permission systems.
Extend fine‑grained token permissions and role definitions.
Maintain consistent enforcement across GraphQL and REST APIs.
Refactor policy code incrementally without altering existing behavior.
Collaborate with authentication, platform, and AI teams to document contracts and design documents.
