About the role

Caterpillar is offering a 24‑week paid Returnship in Bangalore for professionals who have taken a minimum six‑month career break. The program combines training, mentorship and a real project on mainframe systems, giving participants a chance to re‑enter the workforce as an IT Analyst focused on mainframe applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS and VSAM.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and enhance both batch and online workloads.
  • Perform complex debugging, root‑cause analysis and resolve production incidents.
  • Write and optimise DB2 SQL queries and manage batch job schedules.
  • Produce technical specifications, documentation and support procedures.
  • Mentor junior developers and collaborate with analysts, infrastructure and other stakeholders.

Eligibility

  • At least six months of career break prior to applying.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience as a Mainframe Developer with hands‑on exposure to COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS and VSAM.

Skills

  • Strong command of COBOL, JCL, DB2/SQL, CICS and VSAM.
  • Experience with mainframe batch processing and production support.
  • Ability to debug, perform root‑cause analysis and manage incident resolution.
  • Familiarity with IBM z/OS environment, TSO/ISPF and related tools is a plus.
  • Good communication skills for interaction with business and technical teams.
