About the role

Barclays is looking for a Data Engineer with strong AWS expertise to design, build and maintain data pipelines, warehouses and lakes. The role involves creating scalable cloud infrastructure, automating deployments and ensuring data security while collaborating with data scientists and other engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain data architecture pipelines for reliable data movement.
  • Design and implement secure data warehouses and lakes on AWS.
  • Write processing and analysis algorithms suited to large‑scale data.
  • Partner with data scientists to operationalise machine‑learning models.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, CloudFormation and Ansible.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitor production environments and manage incident response.

Eligibility

  • Proven experience building AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of core AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, IAM, Lambda and DynamoDB.
  • Strong Linux administration and shell‑scripting skills.
  • Ability to create technical documentation and operational runbooks.

  • AWS cloud computing and networking concepts.
  • Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible.
  • CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab.
  • Containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
  • Data‑engineer tools: Apache Spark, Apache Airflow.
  • Monitoring, observability and cost‑optimisation practices.
