The company was founded in 1919 by Clessie Lyle Cummins, an early experimenter with diesel technology, and W. G. Irwin, a local banker who provided financing for the venture. Cummins is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange and operates manufacturing plants, distribution centres, and technology centres in dozens of countries. The Cummins Group has a substantial India presence headquartered in Pune through Cummins India Limited and other affiliates, with manufacturing and engineering operations in Pune, Phaltan, Daman, and other locations, supplying both the Indian market and global Cummins requirements.
