3M Company, formerly the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, is an American multinational conglomerate headquartered in Maplewood, Minnesota. The company designs, manufactures, and markets a portfolio of more than 60,000 products spanning adhesives, abrasives, laminates, passive fire protection, industrial films, personal protective equipment, electrical and electronic connecting and insulating materials, optical films, surgical and dental products, and consumer brands such as Post-it and Scotch. The company was founded on June 13, 1902 in Two Harbors, Minnesota by five businessmen as a mining venture aimed at extracting corundum. After early commercial difficulties, the firm pivoted to sandpaper and abrasives and moved to Saint Paul in 1910 before relocating to its present 3M Center campus in Maplewood, Minnesota in 1962. 3M is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MMM. 3M operates four global business groups: Safety and Industrial; Transportation and Electronics; Health Care (now operating as the spun-off Solventum, Inc.); and Consumer. Its products are sold to customers including manufacturers, hospitals, electronics, automotive, aerospace, infrastructure, and retail buyers in over 70 countries. 3M employs approximately 85,000 people worldwide. 3M India Limited operates manufacturing, technology, and customer-technical-services centres in Bengaluru (including the 3M India Technology Centre), Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
