Software Development Engineer II - Player (Frontend)

About the role

JioStar is looking for a mid‑level Frontend Engineer to design and build high‑performance video player experiences for desktop browsers, mobile web and Smart TV platforms. You will work with React, Next.js and TypeScript to deliver fast, reliable streaming interfaces that reach millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and design of complex front‑end systems using React, Next.js and TypeScript.
• Optimize web applications for speed, scalability and Core Web Vitals, focusing on startup time, buffering and memory usage.
• Ensure consistent playback across desktop, mobile and Smart TV browsers (WebOS, Tizen, VIDAA).
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct thorough code reviews.
• Collaborate with product managers and UX designers to turn wireframes into reusable components.
• Integrate player UI with HTML5 video, MSE/EME and analytics frameworks to monitor QoS metrics.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2‑4 years of professional experience in modern web development.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.

Skills

• Expertise in TypeScript, React, Next.js and CSS‑in‑JS (styled‑components or Tailwind).
• Hands‑on experience with HTML5 video players and SDKs such as Shaka Player, HLS.js, Video.js or Dash.js.
• Deep knowledge of HLS and MPEG‑DASH streaming protocols.
• Familiarity with modern build tools (Webpack, Vite, Rollup) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in automated testing using Jest, React Testing Library and Playwright.
• Understanding of web security best practices (XSS, CSP, CORS, DRM).
