About the role

GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer for its Security Factory Code Scanning team. The role focuses on enhancing the static analysis engine that discovers security flaws in code, leveraging AI‑assisted tooling and collaborating across Rust, Go, and Ruby components.

Responsibilities

Extend program modeling, including parsing, symbol resolution, call‑graph creation and taint‑flow analysis for new languages and frameworks.
Build AI‑driven tools to implement, review and validate engine changes, measuring false‑positive and false‑negative rates.
Develop SAST rules aligned with CWE and OWASP, and create test fixtures to verify their effectiveness.
Implement component specifications together with engineers and AI agents, keeping code and specifications synchronized.
Improve AI agent harnesses, instructions and safety checks, escalating risky changes for human review.
Participate in on‑call rotations to troubleshoot product and security incidents.
