About the role

Barclays is looking for a Software Engineer specializing in Mainframe technologies to join its Pune office. The role involves designing, developing, and enhancing high‑quality mainframe applications while collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams to meet business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scalable, maintainable mainframe software using COBOL, JCL, IMS, DB2, VSAM, CICS, TWS and related tools.
  • Partner with product managers and designers to define requirements and create solution strategies.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and promote best‑practice coding standards.
  • Apply secure coding practices and implement thorough unit testing.
  • Stay current with mainframe modernization trends, including API enablement and AI‑assisted development.
  • Contribute to mainframe DevOps initiatives and automated delivery pipelines.

Eligibility

  • Strong experience in mainframe application design, development, and technical leadership.
  • Proficiency with core mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, IMS/DB/DC, DB2, VSAM, CICS, TWS, Stored Procedures and REXX.
  • Understanding of performance engineering, debugging, and change‑management tools.
  • Ability to guide large‑scale implementations and support cross‑team delivery.
