About Standard Chartered Bank
Standard Chartered Bank is a British multinational banking and financial-services group headquartered at 1 Basinghall Avenue in the City of London. The bank operates in 53 markets across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, and serves clients in an additional 64 markets, providing personal, priority, business, corporate, commercial, and institutional banking, along with private banking and wealth management. The group was formed in 1969 through the merger of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China (chartered by Queen Victoria in 1853) and the Standard Bank of British South Africa (founded in 1862 by John Paterson in Cape Colony). Both predecessor banks had operated in emerging markets for more than a century before the merger. The combined Standard Chartered PLC is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. Standard Chartered is organised around four client segments — Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking; Consumer, Private and Business Banking; Wealth Management; and Ventures — and operates a global network that emphasises trade, capital markets, and transaction banking across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The group is also a significant participant in sustainable finance, having committed to mobilising substantial financing for net-zero and emerging-markets development. The bank employs approximately 85,000 people globally. In India, where Standard Chartered has operated for more than 165 years, the bank runs one of its largest country presences with 100 branches across 42 cities and major Global Business Services hubs in Bengaluru and Chennai that support technology, operations, finance, and other functions for the global group. Indian fresher and early-career hiring at Standard Chartered targets technology, operations, finance, risk, audit, banking, and graduate-rotational programmes, with applications routed through Standard Chartered's careers portal at sc.com.
