About Meesho

Meesho is an Indian online marketplace company headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The platform connects small and medium-sized sellers with value-conscious consumers across India and is known for its emphasis on unbranded and lightly branded products in apparel, home goods, beauty, and electronics accessories. The company was founded in December 2015 by IIT Delhi alumni Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal. It was originally launched as Fashnear, a hyperlocal fashion delivery service, and was later pivoted into a social-commerce reselling platform that enabled individuals to resell catalog products through WhatsApp and Facebook. In 2021 the company added a direct consumer-facing marketplace, which has since become its primary business. Meesho has been backed by investors including SoftBank Vision Fund, Prosus Ventures, Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital India), Meta, B Capital, Elevation Capital, and Y Combinator. It became a unicorn in April 2021 and subsequently scaled order volumes by emphasising zero commission to sellers and pin-code-level supply from manufacturing clusters such as Surat, Tiruppur, Jaipur, and Panipat. The company operates a logistics aggregator network (Valmo) and a returns and quality-control programme to support tier-2 and tier-3 demand. Meesho re-domiciled its parent entity from the United States to India in 2024 ahead of a planned domestic public listing. Meesho's engineering, product, design, data-science, and category-management teams hire freshers and early-career candidates through campus placements at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and BITS, as well as through the Meesho Scholar Programme and lateral applications via meesho.io/jobs.
