Description

About the role

Umbrel is seeking a senior frontend engineer to lead the development of its web‑based interfaces, including the UmbrelOS UI, first‑party applications, and the corporate website. The role is fully remote and requires a strong eye for design, deep expertise in React and TypeScript, and the ability to turn vague product ideas into polished, accessible user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Translate Figma designs into high‑quality React + TypeScript code, refining them when implementation reveals gaps.
  • Deliver polished, accessible UI components using Tailwind, Shadcn UI, and Radix, paying attention to empty states, error handling, skeletons, and microcopy.
  • Implement purposeful motion and transitions that convey state without unnecessary decoration.
  • Architect reusable, themable components and APIs that scale and age gracefully.
  • Write clear, maintainable code with comprehensive tests, improving the overall health of the codebase.
  • Draft short design documents, prototype solutions quickly, and ship incremental, reversible updates.
  • Collaborate early with designers to iterate on spacing, typography, easing, and copy as part of the UI.
  • Communicate effectively in an async‑first environment and provide constructive feedback.
  • Exercise strong product judgment to balance refinement with timely shipping.

Eligibility

  • Minimum five years of professional frontend development experience.
  • Proven track record building complex web applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Deep understanding of accessibility best practices and responsive design.
  • Experience turning design specifications (e.g., Figma) into production‑ready code.
  • Strong written communication skills for async collaboration.
