Software Development Engineer II (JavaScript)

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer II specializing in JavaScript, you will design, build, and maintain frontend applications that simplify everyday tasks for Tesco customers and staff. The position is based in Budapest and follows a hybrid work model, combining remote days with three office days per week.

Responsibilities

• Develop clean, standards‑compliant HTML5 and CSS3 interfaces.
• Write robust, object‑oriented JavaScript code for browser and server environments.
• Utilize modern frameworks such as React (and optionally Backbone, jQuery, Underscore) to create responsive UI components.
• Profile, optimise, and refactor code for performance and scalability.
• Apply SOLID principles and appropriate design patterns to solve problems.
• Write unit tests using Jasmine or similar tools and participate in BDD/ATDD/TDD practices.
• Integrate RESTful APIs and collaborate with backend services built on Node.js/Express.
• Lead design discussions, mentor peers, and support production systems.
