Senior Staff Engineer, Frontend

About the role

Plane is building an open, adaptable work management platform that unifies projects, knowledge, and requests. As a Senior Staff Frontend Engineer you will own the architecture of the web client, handling real‑time collaborative editing, performance, accessibility, and integration with AI agents across cloud and on‑prem deployments.

Responsibilities

• Own the frontend architecture, defining state flow, sync boundaries, and shared component guarantees.
• Design and implement real‑time collaborative editing, including transport, offline behavior, and conflict resolution.
• Set performance and accessibility standards for dense views handling tens of thousands of items.
• Define how AI agent activity is presented, ensuring visibility and authority comparable to human actions.
• Mentor and raise the level of frontend engineers across San Francisco and Hyderabad through reviews and standards.
• Manage migrations in a public codebase, ensuring smooth upgrades for external contributors and self‑hosted customers.

Eligibility

• 8+ years building web applications with deep ownership of architecture.
• Expertise in TypeScript and React, capable of low‑level performance debugging.
• Experience owning a design system used across multiple teams.
• Delivered production‑ready real‑time collaborative editing (CRDTs, OT, etc.).
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and establishing lasting standards.
