About the role

OpenAI is looking for a senior full‑stack engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of secure ChatGPT and API solutions for government customers. The role involves end‑to‑end ownership of features, collaboration with product, security, and compliance teams, and direct interaction with public‑sector clients to deliver reliable, high‑impact AI services.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new customer‑facing ChatGPT and OpenAI API capabilities both on‑premises and in the cloud.
• Partner with engineering, security, and compliance groups to ensure solutions meet strict governmental requirements.
• Engage with users to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs.
• Collaborate with research teams to incorporate the latest models and tailor them for public‑sector use cases.
• Work with cross‑functional teams—including product managers, designers, and operations—to ship cutting‑edge products.
• Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and reliability in high‑stakes environments.

Eligibility

• U.S. citizenship.
• Minimum 9 years of software engineering experience at technology‑focused companies.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Interest in AI/ML concepts (hands‑on experience not mandatory).
• Ability to thrive in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments with competing priorities.
