Software Quality Engineer – Automation & AI

About the role

KLA is seeking a Software Quality Engineer focused on automation and AI to join its Chennai team. You will ensure the reliability of semiconductor inspection software by designing, executing, and automating functional and performance tests, while also leveraging generative AI to enhance testing efficiency and insight.

Responsibilities

• Validate new and existing software features through functional, performance, regression, and system‑level testing.
• Create and maintain detailed test plans, cases, and validation strategies to guarantee product quality.
• Analyze test outcomes, produce qualification reports, and share best‑known methods and training material.
• Collaborate with algorithm, engineering, product, manufacturing, marketing and support teams across global locations.
• Assess automation potential and build automated test frameworks, tools, and utilities to boost coverage and speed.
• Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design reviews, deployment, troubleshooting, and customer support.
• Apply generative AI and LLM‑based tools to improve test design, defect analysis, reporting, and documentation.
• Develop AI‑enabled utilities and productivity applications for quality engineering workflows.
• Prototype and deploy high‑impact AI use cases that increase engineering productivity and root‑cause analysis.

Eligibility

• Master’s degree with no prior work experience, or Bachelor’s degree with up to two years of relevant experience.
• Willingness to travel to customer fabs for use‑case understanding, software deployment, and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration abilities.

Skills

• Proficient programming in Python, C#, C++ or Java.
• Hands‑on experience with software testing, automation frameworks and quality‑engineering practices.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, generative AI, prompt engineering, and AI agents (preferred).
• Knowledge of test automation tools such as Selenium, CI/CD pipelines, and API testing.
