Python Gen AI Engineer

About the role

Cognizant is seeking an experienced Python Gen AI Engineer for its Chennai office. The role blends production‑grade Python development with advanced generative AI engineering, focusing on building enterprise‑ready AI agents, RAG pipelines, and modular, platform‑agnostic architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement production‑level Python services that integrate large language models using frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph.
• Develop end‑to‑end generative AI workflows, including prompting, tool/function calling, retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings, and memory management.
• Architect modular, vendor‑agnostic AI solutions that can switch between LLM providers or cloud platforms without major rewrites.
• Apply software engineering best practices: SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, version control, code reviews, automated testing, and microservice‑based API design.
• Implement observability, tracing, and evaluation mechanisms for AI agents using tools like LangSmith or custom frameworks.
• Enforce AI governance by defining guardrails, access controls, audit logs, and human‑in‑the‑loop oversight.

Eligibility

• Graduation in B.E, B.Tech, M.E or M.Tech (any engineering discipline).
• Proven professional experience building production‑grade Python applications and generative AI solutions.
• Hands‑on expertise with LangChain, LangGraph or comparable agentic frameworks.
• Strong understanding of LLM concepts such as prompting, tool calling, RAG, embeddings, and context management.
• Experience with API design, microservices, CI/CD, version control, and automated testing.
