Web Frontend Engineer

About the role

Canonical is seeking a Web Frontend Engineer to create data‑rich, responsive user interfaces for its enterprise products. The role focuses on building features with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS and Flutter while collaborating with a globally distributed, fully remote team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test web and Flutter applications following best practices.
• Debug and resolve user‑facing issues promptly.
• Participate in code and architectural reviews within the engineering process.
• Collaborate with community members and colleagues to define technical specifications.
• Write clear technical documentation and improve engineering workflows.
• Deploy, operate and advocate for the products you build.

Eligibility

• Strong academic record from high school and university.
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related STEM field, or an equivalent demonstrated path.
• Self‑organized, proactive attitude with ability to meet schedules.
• Fluent professional English, both written and spoken.
• Experience with Linux environments, preferably Debian/Ubuntu.
• Willingness to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for team events.

Skills

• Proficiency in TypeScript, React and modern JavaScript.
• Experience building UI with CSS and Flutter.
• Understanding of accessibility and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and Linux command line.
• Good communication and presentation abilities.
