Principal Software Engineer (React)

About the role

Bluehost is seeking a Principal Software Engineer specialized in React to lead the design and delivery of high‑performance, customer‑facing web applications. The role is fully remote, reporting to senior leadership, and focuses on shaping the frontend architecture for millions of small‑business users.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for frontend systems across the platform.
• Lead design and development of scalable, high‑performance web applications serving millions of users.
• Conduct architecture reviews, design discussions, and deep technical dives to ensure engineering excellence.
• Mentor senior engineers, raise the engineering bar, and influence hiring and onboarding standards.
• Own critical production systems, ensuring observability, security, reliability, and CI/CD quality.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and champion best practices in performance, accessibility, and reusable component design.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 12 years of hands‑on frontend or full‑stack development experience.
• At least 2 years in a principal, staff or equivalent technical leadership role.
• Proven ability to lead large‑scale technical initiatives from concept to delivery.
• Strong communication and stakeholder influencing skills.
• Demonstrated mentorship experience and a bias for action in ambiguous situations.

Skills

• Expert proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Deep mastery of React (hooks, context, routing, server components, component architecture).
• Experience with state‑management and data‑fetching libraries such as Zustand, TanStack Query and TanStack Router.
• Hands‑on knowledge of modern build tools like Webpack, Vite or Turborepo.
• Extensive testing experience using Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress or Playwright integrated with CI/CD.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and cloud platforms (OCI) is a plus.
