About the role

The AI/ML Engineer will join Billion Readers (BIRD) Initiative in Chennai to build and customise machine‑learning models that power PlanetRead’s Same Language Subtitling platform. The role demands 1‑4 years of relevant experience and focuses on delivering robust AI solutions, coordinating technical projects and ensuring high‑quality outputs.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and fine‑tune AI/ML models, including transformers, RNNs and speech‑recognition pipelines.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to plan, execute and monitor multiple technical projects, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
Implement quality‑assurance processes, conduct regular reviews and maintain documentation for deliverables.
Prepare progress reports, status updates and technical documentation for stakeholders.
Adapt the role over time to meet evolving needs of the PlanetRead platform.

Eligibility

1 to 4 years of professional experience in AI/ML or related fields.
Based in or willing to work onsite in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Skills

Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
Hands‑on experience with machine‑learning frameworks, deep learning, transformers and automatic speech recognition.
Familiarity with backend development using FastAPI.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
Solid problem‑solving abilities and debugging skills.
