Verizon Communications Inc. is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate headquartered at 1095 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The company provides wireless mobile, fixed broadband, fibre-to-the-home, video, voice, network, IoT, security, and managed-services products to consumer, business, public-sector, and wholesale customers, primarily in the United States but also internationally through its Verizon Business segment. The present company was formed on June 30, 2000, when Bell Atlantic Corporation completed its acquisition of GTE Corporation and renamed itself Verizon Communications. Bell Atlantic itself had been one of the original Regional Bell Operating Companies created by the 1984 breakup of AT&T, and had previously merged with NYNEX in 1997. The Verizon Wireless joint venture with Vodafone was formed in 2000 and became wholly owned by Verizon in 2014. Verizon operates one of the largest 4G LTE and 5G mobile networks in the United States, along with the Fios fibre-optic broadband and television service. The Verizon Business unit provides networking, cybersecurity, cloud, and IoT services to enterprises and governments worldwide. Verizon trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker VZ and is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company employs more than 100,000 people globally. India operations include the Verizon India Pvt Ltd technology and global-services centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, which support network engineering, software development, IT operations, and global enterprise services.
