Optum, Inc. is an American healthcare-services and technology company headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group and is one of the two principal businesses of the parent, alongside the UnitedHealthcare insurance segment. Optum was formed in 2011 when UnitedHealth Group consolidated its pharmacy-services, healthcare-IT, and care-services businesses under a single brand. The company is organised around three operating segments: OptumRx, a pharmacy benefit manager and pharmacy-services business; Optum Health, a care-delivery business spanning primary care, behavioural health, surgical care, home health, and hospice services; and Optum Insight, a healthcare data, analytics, software, advisory, and revenue-cycle services business. Across these segments Optum serves health plans, employers, government agencies, life-sciences companies, hospital systems, physician groups, and individual consumers. Its Change Healthcare business, acquired in 2022, was integrated into Optum Insight to expand claims processing and clinical-data services. Optum employs more than 250,000 people worldwide. Optum Global Solutions India operates large delivery and engineering centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gurugram, and Noida that support claims processing, clinical operations, software engineering, data engineering, and business operations for the global Optum and UnitedHealth Group businesses.
