The airline operates scheduled passenger and cargo services to more than 120 destinations, including a network of domestic destinations across India and international destinations across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, predominantly using a fleet of Airbus A320, A321, and ATR 72 aircraft, with widebody A350 deliveries planned for international expansion.
IndiGo was founded in 2006 by Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal, a United States-based aviation industry veteran, and commenced commercial operations in August 2006 with a single Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline pursued a low-cost, high-frequency, single-fleet strategy and overtook the legacy Indian carriers in domestic market share in 2012. InterGlobe Aviation conducted its initial public offering on the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India in November 2015 under the ticker INDIGO.
