Software Engineer - Next.js

About the role

Vercel is seeking a remote Software Engineer to work on the core of Next.js, the widely‑used web framework. You will shape the future of the web by delivering high‑impact features, collaborating with internal teams and the open‑source community, and ensuring performance and stability at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship core Next.js features from proposal to production release.
• Partner with Vercel platform and runtime teams to create seamless framework‑infrastructure integrations.
• Interact with the open‑source community through issues, pull requests, RFCs, and discussions.
• Optimize performance across server, edge, and browser environments.
• Stay current with emerging web standards such as React Server Components and Web Streams.
• Contribute to developer tooling, documentation, and example projects.

Eligibility

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
• Deep understanding of web fundamentals including HTML, CSS, HTTP, and rendering models.
• Experience building production‑grade web applications or frameworks.
• Familiarity with modern build tools like Webpack, Turbopack, Babel, or SWC.
• Collaborative mindset with clear communication, especially in public/open‑source settings.
