Description

About the role

Tailscale is looking for a senior Frontend Engineer to lead the architecture and development of its next‑generation web console. You will shape cross‑origin authentication flows, build shared frontend infrastructure, and collaborate across product, design, and growth teams while working fully remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the overall frontend architecture for the new console, including routing, state management, and long‑term maintainability.
  • Design and maintain secure cross‑origin authentication and session handling, covering CORS, CSRF, cookies, and multi‑environment support.
  • Build and operate a frontend serving platform that hosts multiple Tailscale products under a unified workflow.
  • Establish shared conventions and design patterns to unify disparate product experiences.
  • Create tooling and abstractions that let non‑frontend engineers contribute safe, production‑grade UI.
  • Partner with Product Design to translate complex identity concepts into intuitive user experiences.
  • Collaborate on experimentation, A/B testing, analytics instrumentation, and feature rollouts.
  • Define and improve the console’s testing strategy, including integration and end‑to‑end coverage.
  • Enhance local development workflows, build pipelines, preview deployments, and release ergonomics.
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and establishing platform guardrails, and participate in on‑call rotation.

Eligibility

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience building large‑scale React applications.
  • Strong grasp of web fundamentals such as HTTP, browser security, authentication flows, cookies, storage, CORS, and CSRF.
  • Experience creating internal platforms, shared libraries, or frameworks that enable other teams to ship products.
  • Proven ability to define a unified console vision across multiple frontend codebases.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset across design, growth, and infrastructure teams.
