Design Engineer

About the role

Replit is looking for a senior Design Engineer to lead the evolution of its UI design system, craft high‑performance animations, and build interactive, agentic interfaces. You will work closely with product designers and engineers to turn design concepts into production‑ready code while championing accessibility and performance.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop complex UI components that balance visual appeal with technical efficiency.
• Drive the technical roadmap and implementation of the Replit UI design system.
• Create prototypes to test new interaction models and validate design ideas.
• Collaborate with product designers to achieve pixel‑perfect implementations.
• Establish front‑end best practices, mentor engineers, and improve design‑to‑development workflows.
• Advocate for accessible, responsive, and performant user experiences.

Eligibility

• 8+ years of front‑end development experience with a strong design sensibility.
• Proven expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks (React preferred).
• Deep understanding of design systems, component architecture, and UI animation.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Experience with accessibility standards and best practices.
