Lead Engineer (Web)

About the role

The Lead Engineer (Web) will spearhead the creation of high‑performance, consumer‑facing web applications for Puma Group. You will own the frontend architecture, set engineering standards, and collaborate across product, design, and platform teams to deliver seamless digital experiences.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the frontend architecture for large‑scale consumer web platforms.
• Establish engineering standards, reusable patterns, and best practices for React, TypeScript, Next.js, and GraphQL projects.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to development teams, ensuring code quality, accessibility, and performance.
• Design modular, secure, and maintainable frontend solutions that integrate with commerce, content, and enterprise systems via API‑first and headless approaches.
• Evaluate architectural trade‑offs and guide system design decisions aligned with business goals.
• Partner with product, design, quality engineering, and platform groups to optimise the end‑to‑end consumer journey.

Skills

• Strong expertise in React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Hands‑on experience with Next.js and GraphQL.
• Deep understanding of frontend architecture, API‑first and headless patterns.
• Proficiency in building scalable, performant, and accessible web applications.
• Ability to define engineering standards and mentor teams.
• Familiarity with web performance optimisation and security best practices.
