About the role

IBM Research – India and the IBM Software Innovation Lab are offering a summer internship (May‑August 2027) across three research tracks – AI & Data, Quantum Algorithms and AI Research – at their Gurgaon and Bangalore labs. The program lasts up to three months and is open to students pursuing B.E/B.Tech, M.E/M.Tech or a Ph.D. with a minimum 70%/7.0 CGPA.

Responsibilities

  • Join live research projects and contribute code, experiments and prototypes under a dedicated mentor.
  • Develop AI pipelines, data‑centric solutions or quantum algorithms depending on the chosen track.
  • Read and reproduce research papers, design controlled experiments and document results.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate research outcomes into prototype software.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in B.E/B.Tech, M.E/M.Tech (including dual degree) or Ph.D. programs.
  • Academic performance of at least 70% or 7.0 CGPA.
  • Available for a full‑time stint of up to three months between May and August 2027.

Skills

  • Strong Python programming, including Pandas and NumPy.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms and problem‑solving.
  • Fundamentals of linear algebra, probability, statistics and machine learning.
  • Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch and deep‑learning frameworks.
  • For the quantum track, proficiency in Qiskit and quantum algorithm concepts.
