Mainframe Apprentice

About the role

CGI is hiring fresh B.E/B.Tech graduates as Mainframe Apprentices in Hyderabad. The role offers hands‑on exposure to mainframe application development, testing and production support, allowing you to work alongside experienced professionals while building core mainframe skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior team members in developing and maintaining mainframe applications.
• Create, modify and run basic JCL jobs, reviewing output for correctness.
• Perform entry‑level COBOL coding, testing and debugging under supervision.
• Write and execute simple DB2 SQL queries to support data‑related tasks.
• Analyze compile, JCL and job‑monitoring errors with guidance.
• Follow established coding, testing, documentation and change‑management standards.

Eligibility

• Completed B.E or B.Tech degree.
• Fresh graduate with no prior work experience.
• Foundational training or knowledge of mainframe technologies.
• Basic understanding of COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS and z/OS concepts.

Skills

• COBOL programming basics.
• JCL job creation and execution.
• DB2 SQL query writing.
• VSAM data‑set handling.
• CICS transaction‑processing fundamentals.
• z/OS environment awareness.
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, AI Governance, FastAPI and Oracle is a plus.
