Founded in 2009 by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam, it operates a mobile application that provides caller identification, call-blocking, spam-prevention, and messaging capabilities backed by a crowd-sourced phonebook directory. The company's parent entity, True Software Scandinavia AB, is publicly listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange. Truecaller's user base is concentrated in India, which accounts for the majority of the platform's monthly active users, with additional strength in other South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African markets. Its product suite has expanded over time to include premium subscriptions, business and enterprise verification services, payments-adjacent features in select markets, and AI-driven call-screening capabilities. In March 2023 Truecaller opened a dedicated office in Bengaluru, India, which the company has described as its largest establishment outside its Stockholm headquarters and its first exclusive office space outside Sweden. The roughly 30,000-square-foot facility was set up to host engineering, product, design, and business teams building India-first features and serving users globally. Indian fresher and early-career hiring at Truecaller targets software-engineer, mobile-engineer, backend-engineer, data-engineer, quality-engineer, and product-analyst roles, with positions sourced through direct applications via the company's careers portal and engineering-community channels.
