Teradata Corporation is an American software and services company headquartered in San Diego, California that builds and sells the Teradata VantageCloud platform — a multi-cloud data warehouse, lakehouse, and analytics environment used by large enterprises to consolidate and query data across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. Teradata's customer base is concentrated in industries with very large analytic data sets, including financial services, telecommunications, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, travel, and government. The firm's roots go back to 1979, when a group of researchers including Jack Shemer, Phil Neches, and others founded Teradata in Brentwood, California to commercialise massively-parallel relational-database technology. In 1991 Teradata was acquired by NCR Corporation, where it operated as the Teradata Data Warehousing business until 2007, when it was spun off as an independent publicly-listed company. Teradata trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TDC. Over the past decade Teradata has transitioned its business from on-premises appliances toward a cloud-native, subscription-based model, launching Teradata Vantage and subsequently the VantageCloud and ClearScape Analytics offerings, which run natively on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. The company also continues to support large on-premises and hybrid deployments for global enterprise customers. Teradata employs roughly 7,000 people globally with offices in the United States, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and India.
