The company's offerings include water filters, softeners, conditioners, dispensers, swimming-pool pumps, heaters, sanitation systems, water reuse and treatment systems for food and beverage processing, and pumps and accessories for residential and commercial applications. The company traces its origins to Pentair, Inc., founded in 1966 in Minnesota, United States as a high-altitude balloon manufacturer that subsequently transitioned through paper, electronics, and pumps and tools into a focused industrial conglomerate. After a series of acquisitions and divestitures, Pentair merged with Tyco International's Flow Control business in 2012 and reincorporated in Ireland and later Switzerland and finally the United Kingdom. In 2018 Pentair spun off its electrical business as nVent Electric plc, leaving Pentair as a focused water solutions company. The company is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker PNR. Pentair's segments are Pool, which includes pool pumps, filters, heaters, automation, and sanitation products sold under the Pentair, Sta-Rite, and Pentair brands; Water Solutions, which includes residential and commercial water treatment products and commercial ice machines under brands such as Everpure and Pentair Water Solutions; and Flow, which includes residential and commercial pumps and water-treatment systems for industrial applications such as food and beverage and dairy.
