Moody's Corporation is an American multinational business and financial services company headquartered in 7 World Trade Center in New York City. The company is the parent of Moody's Investors Service, one of the three large global credit-rating agencies, and Moody's Analytics, which supplies financial intelligence, analytical software, economic research, training, and managed services to capital-markets and corporate customers.
The original Moody's business was founded in 1909 by John Moody, who pioneered the practice of rating publicly issued railroad securities with letter grades. The modern Moody's Corporation was created in 2000 when Dun & Bradstreet spun off the rating business as a separate, publicly traded company. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol MCO and is a constituent of the S&P 500 index.
