Dell Technologies Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. The present company was formed in September 2016, when Dell Inc. completed its acquisition of EMC Corporation in what was, at the time, the largest technology merger in history. The combined entity was renamed Dell Technologies and brought together Dell's PC and server business with EMC's enterprise storage, VMware (later spun off in 2021), Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks, and Virtustream businesses. Dell Inc. itself was founded by Michael Dell on November 4, 1984, as PC's Limited while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Dell Technologies is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DELL. Michael Dell remains chairman and chief executive officer. The company markets PCs and workstations under brands including Dell, XPS, Alienware, Latitude, OptiPlex, and Precision, and enterprise products under the PowerEdge, PowerStore, PowerMax, PowerScale, PowerFlex, and PowerSwitch families. Dell employs more than 100,000 people globally and serves customers in more than 180 countries. India operations include the Dell India Centers of Excellence in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune, which support engineering, services, finance, and global operations across the company's portfolio.
