The company designs, develops, manufactures, markets, sells, and supports a broad portfolio of personal computers, workstations, servers, data-storage systems, networking products, hyperconverged infrastructure, software, and IT services for consumer, small-business, enterprise, public-sector, and telecom customers worldwide.
The present company was formed in September 2016, when Dell Inc. completed its acquisition of EMC Corporation in what was, at the time, the largest technology merger in history. The combined entity was renamed Dell Technologies and brought together Dell's PC and server business with EMC's enterprise storage, VMware (later spun off in 2021), Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks, and Virtustream businesses. Dell Inc. itself was founded by Michael Dell on November 4, 1984, as PC's Limited while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin.
