Data Engineer

About the role

Visa is hiring a Data Engineer for its Bangalore office on a hybrid schedule. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines using Java, Python, Go, Kafka, Flink, and Hadoop. You will work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, ensure data security and privacy, and support the end‑to‑end data lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Participate in stakeholder meetings to capture data requirements, security, privacy, and retention considerations.
• Translate technical specifications into component designs and implement code following established patterns and best practices.
• Write, test, and review code for assigned data pipeline components, incorporating feedback from code reviews.
• Develop unit tests and support testing activities within a shared testing environment.
• Build tools and automation for data transformation, management, deployment, and monitoring.
• Collaborate with teammates to craft queries, extract raw data, and apply transformations.
• Monitor data pipelines, respond to alerts, and implement corrective actions for routine failures.
• Follow troubleshooting guides to resolve basic pipeline issues and escalate complex problems.

Eligibility

• 1‑2 years of experience attending stakeholder meetings to gather data requirements.
• Proven ability to interpret technical requirements and execute component designs.
• Hands‑on experience writing and deploying code for data pipeline components.
• Experience participating in code reviews and applying feedback.
• Background in unit testing and supporting code testing in a common environment.
• Experience building automation tools for data management.
• Ability to collaborate on data extraction, compilation, and transformation tasks.
• Experience monitoring data pipelines, handling alerts, and performing basic issue resolution.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting and resolving routine data pipeline problems.
