About the role

Coinbase is looking for a senior engineer to own and evolve its Data Platform. You will design, build, and operate core data services, from cloud warehouses and data lakes to streaming pipelines, enabling analytics, machine learning and product teams across the company.

Responsibilities

Architect and maintain foundational storage, orchestration (Airflow) and processing layers (Spark, SQL, Kafka).
Develop SDKs that simplify data integration for internal services.
Create self‑service tools that let users monitor and troubleshoot their pipelines.
Implement data security, observability, quality, cataloging and lineage features.
Translate analyst, ML and security requests into reusable, scalable patterns.

Eligibility

Minimum five years of professional software engineering experience with senior‑level ownership.
Strong background in backend development using Python, Go, or Java.
Hands‑on experience building or operating data systems and pipelines.

Skills

Python, Go, or Java programming.
SQL and Airflow for data workflow management.
Big‑data processing with Spark.
Streaming with Kafka.
Design patterns for scalable storage (cloud warehouse, data lake).
