Associate Backend Engineer

About the role

Bain & Company is hiring an Associate Backend Engineer to work on AI‑enabled internal tools and client‑facing solutions. The role is hybrid, based in Gurgaon, and requires building scalable Python services, integrating large language model APIs, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑impact consulting outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop clean, reusable and testable Python code using Flask/FastAPI to create scalable backend services.
• Design and implement AI‑powered applications that leverage OpenAI LLMs for tasks such as summarisation, classification and workflow automation.
• Build and maintain RESTful API integrations with external LLM platforms and ensure robust data handling.
• Evaluate emerging frameworks, libraries and tools, recommending adoption where beneficial.
• Participate in project planning, stakeholder discussions and deliver clear technical presentations.
• Mentor junior team members, contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions and uphold best practices in SDLC and CI/CD pipelines.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2‑5 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong analytical abilities, leadership potential and excellent English communication skills.

Skills

• Python with Flask/FastAPI.
• Data processing libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, XlsxWriter.
• Experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI) and prompt engineering.
• REST API design and ORM usage.
• Version control (Git), containerisation (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases.
