Associate Back-End Software Engineer

About the role

Light & Wonder is seeking an Associate Back-End Software Engineer to join its Pune team. You will design, develop, and maintain game engine components for digital casino games, ensure high‑quality code through testing and documentation, and work closely with designers, front‑end developers, and QA to deliver seamless player experiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain back‑end game engine functionality for Light & Wonder titles.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to guarantee reliability.
• Create technical documentation and share best practices with the team.
• Collaborate with game designers and mathematicians to implement game mechanics.
• Integrate engine features with front‑end clients alongside front‑end developers.
• Assist QA in testing, debugging, and issue resolution.
• Participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback.
• Contribute tools and process improvements to streamline the development pipeline.
• Engage actively in team meetings and support overall project success.

Eligibility

• 1‑3 years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java 17+ or a comparable OOP language.
• Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Experience with XML and JSON file formats.
• Ability to use debugging tools and analyze logs.
• Hands‑on experience with Git or similar version‑control systems.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira.
• Knowledge of SSH and command‑line operations.
• Understanding of SQL databases and query writing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
